Thermal transfer printing uses a head that contains resistive elements in a linear array to heat ink-coated films (ribbons). The head is in direct contact with the uncoated side of the ribbon and the ink-coated side of the ribbon is in direct contact with the substrate. The ink is heated, causing it to melt and adhere to the printing substrate.

Digital thermal transfer printers are most effective when printing variable information such as sequential numbering or bar codes. Other printing methods require costly set ups for each change in copy. With thermal transfer printing VisionMark is able to design labeling systems that incorporate variable information without the expense of custom prepress costs.

VisionMark uses a wide variety of thermal transfer printers with different capacities and functions. In addition, VisionMark is able to thermal transfer printing use in conjunction with hot stamp printing and flexographic printing for unique designs and constructions.
